The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, presented a reconstruction plan valued at around 10,000 million pesos, translated into 540 million dollars, aimed at direct assistance to nearly 100,000 families affected by the floods and landslides that have affected five states in the center of the country. The program also stipulates the recovery of schools and clinics, as well as the promotion of employment.
The government plan was structured in four fundamental axes of work: immediate attention to the emergency, direct support to the affected families, the reconstruction of infrastructure and the strengthening of risk forecasting and warning systems. Sheinbaum emphasized that the work on the first axis is still continuing.

Regarding the initial phase, the president explained that “we are still working on attending to the emergency,” since there are still communities that lack land passage. Efforts are focused on cleaning homes and ensuring the recovery of basic systems such as communications and vital drinking water service.
The response to the emergency mobilized an unprecedented joint effort, involving more than 52,000 civilians and military personnel from the Armed Forces, in coordination with the federal, state, and municipal governments. This massive deployment seeks to accelerate aid to the most impacted areas, where damage persists.
As for the second axis, the president announced that the delivery of the first support of 20,000 pesos (about 1,000 dollars) to all affected households will begin next Wednesday, October 22. To date, the census has registered 75,000 of the estimated 100,000 families, which will allow this direct aid to be channeled to those who lost their property due to the effects of the rains.
For his part, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Jesús Esteva, confirmed the great progress in the rehabilitation of roads, pointing out that, of the 288 communities cut off at the beginning of the emergency, now only 119 remain. The authorities estimate that the entire network of roads and affected rural routes will be enabled in the first two weeks of November.
The reconstruction plan, which prioritizes the delivery of direct economic support to the victims, underscores the commitment of the Government of Mexico to the affected families, seeking to accelerate the recovery of the devastated territories.
